NeverKnew, you've had a great idea, and I really wouldn't want to pee on anyone's bonfire and find fault with it. The day we start to become afraid of using certain words, we become as nuts as the WTS. Next thing you know, we'll be throwing our plastic wizards away... Go ahead, reclaim the words back from them. They've taken enough already.

Eric Reeder's Memorial?
by NeverKnew ini've seen the insulting obituary and like all of you, i'm blown away.. i've also seen several threads of individuals crying out for an opportunity to meet with others on this board.
maybe it's time to recognize the need for an assembly (if you will) to foster a familial relationship for those on this board!.
what if a memorial were planned, in eric's honor of course, for a weekend next september in north carolina?

Hmm, both "memorial" and "assembly" could be said to be tainted by the cult mentality that did so much harm. It needs to be something positive, why not leave it as a simple "gathering"? I'm a Brit, but I'd get there if at all possible.

I couldn't agree more, he deserves a fitting tribute.
To all those who cared about him, you have my condolences.
To all those who should have cared, you have my contempt.

How in the hell are they going to know about family worship participation? Are they installing spy cameras in everybody's houses to monitor compliance? They're making it up, it's nothing more than another shameless way to guilt trip the poor bloody infantry into breaking their backs for the org even more. If they're reliant on feedback from individual dubs, just tell them what they want to hear. Then trash the worship, go watch a DVD instead and the elders can go suck it.

This is an utter disgrace. How could this sum up the weight of a man's worth, it shows as much respect as putting him out with the trash. Like many, I only knew Eric through the medium of his posts here, but grew to like, admire and respect the man behind them. He was a truly noble soul, who sacrificed so much to help those he loved, demanding nothing but to be accepted for who he was. Full of life and energy, compassion and such wit.How strange that those most moved by this tragedy are those who, mostly, only knew him through the internet. Just a pattern of coloured dots on a screen. But you will be missed, Eric, those who knew and appreciated you will mourn your passing and keep your memory. There is an Oompa-shaped whole in the world that can never be filled.
If one good thing is to come out of this sadness, may it be that your efforts to get your loved ones free and safe come to fruition. Pity it cost so much.

The world has lost much of it's colour, much of it's brightness today.
Eric, may you find the peace denied you in life.
Sic transit gloria mundi.

Service meeting topic: Masturbation
by perfect1 inone of my strangest memories of going to the kh was when a young- maybe 18-20, pimply young man got up to talk about jhvhs view of masturbation during a service meeting.. of course, it was impossible to think about him not masturbating.
i was just hitting puberty and found the whole thing very uncomfortable- i think my dad was even critiquing him (what is that called when elder gives the feedback).
looking back now i can see that to publicly condemn masturbation, especially when a young man is delivering this admonition, is- well- hilarious.

Just lucky it wasn't being given to a sign language congregation...
